As the nation's largest merit-based foundation at a public university, the Jefferson Scholars Foundation identifies, attracts, and supports exceptional talent at the University of Virginia, investing in distinguished faculty and outstanding undergraduate and graduate students across multiple disciplines.
UNDERGRADUATE
Exceptional students come to UVA through two premier merit scholarships—the flagship Jefferson Scholarship and the Walentas Scholarship for first-generation college students. Both provide full support for four years of study at UVA.
GRADUATE
The Foundation supports graduate students through the Jefferson and National Fellowships. Selected for their academic achievement and leadership, Fellows receive funding and individualized support that advances their research and professional development.
FACULTY
Great universities are defined by great faculty. The Foundation strengthens UVA by supporting Distinguished Professors across a broad range of disciplines and recognizes outstanding teaching through its annual faculty awards.
